Victoria Monét, known for her hit song “On My Mama,” has opened up about her struggles with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

The 34-year-old singer took to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, April 23, to share her thoughts on the changes her body has undergone since being diagnosed with the chronic hormonal condition.

In the post, Monét shared a photo of herself performing onstage at Coachella. The image showed Monét with her back to the camera, posing in front of a backdrop depicting the moon and night sky.

Alongside the photo, she candidly discussed the weight gain she experienced due to PCOS, noting that it affected various areas of her body including her face, arms, tummy, and notably, her posterior.

“Welp.. I gained a lot of weight and it went a lot of places lol face, arms, tummy and most effectively… datassss,” she wrote in the caption.

Despite the challenges posed by PCOS, Monét maintained a positive outlook, jokingly adding, “I usually am so critical and frustrated by it because PCOS has me really messed up, but optimistically at least now there’s two moons on the stage,” accompanied by a crying face emoji.

PCOS, according to John Hopkins Medicine, occurs when a woman produces an “abnormal amount of androgens” — or male sex hormones — leading to symptoms such as irregular periods and difficulty conceiving due to ovarian cysts.

Monét's story adds to the voices of other celebrities, such as Kenyan artist Wendy Kimani, who have shared their experiences with PCOS.

Kimani, in an Instagram post from 2023, spoke about her struggles with the condition and the challenges she faced while trying to conceive her second child.

In her post, Kimani revealed her journey of undergoing hormonal treatments and lifestyle changes to manage her PCOS symptoms and improve her chances of conception.

"It was intrusive and stressful and reaaallly reminded me of how I conceived my miracle PCOS baby Taji, without all that stress," wrote Wendy.

Through dietary adjustments, exercise, and supplements, Kimani successfully regained her menstrual cycle and achieved significant weight loss, offering hope and encouragement to others facing similar struggles with PCOS and fertility.
